About Us
Coventry Church was founded in May of 2004 as an mission church in the Anglican expression of faith. Our members come from various denominational backgrounds to gather in unity of expression and celebrate the Grace and Greatness of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We find the centuries-old Christian liturgy of the Anglican Church to be a great source of spiritual strength. As God's call is for His creation to be reconciled to Him, we are emboldened to share the Gospel message of salvation through Jesus Christ. Standing with the Celtic and Anglican traditions, Coventry Church's worship model is formed by the convergence of the three great historical expressions of faith and practice:
- Liturgical/Sacramental - Historical, Scriptural, Orthodox, and Relational
- Evangelical - Personal Conversion, Missions, and Social Justice
- Charismatic - Expressive Worship and Spiritual Gifts
The church takes its name from the Cathedral in England that was virtually destroyed during bombing raids in World War II. Symbolic of the Cathedral, our lives can many times be utterly decimated by even simple events. The ministry of Coventry Church is to provide a church where individuals and families can gather in the peace of God, find restoration through the Holy Spirit, and worship our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is a place of relationships; where a person isn't subjected to arbitrary and hurtful legalism, but rather spiritual formation, relationship, and a full understanding of God's Grace. It is a safe place to explore the faith and the mysteries of God. Geographically, Coventry Anglican is located about 30 minutes south of Birmingham, Alabama; much as our namesake is located a similar distance south of Birmingham, England.
Members of Coventry Anglican are helped to understand that we can not attain a heavenly and eternal existence apart from the grace of God. That Grace is revealed in the person of Jesus Christ, who paid the cost of our sin by dying on a cross as an atonement; who rose from the dead, thereby conquering death on our behalf, ensuring an eternal existence in the presence of God to all who believe and receive His salvation; and, who now lives and reigns over His creation, and prepares an eternal home for His people. He is soon to return and reconcile His creation - for "every knee will bow...[and] every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Amen.
